Over the past few months, we’ve advanced a prevention-first approach to protect clients and Care Pros, with priority on fall reduction and injury avoidance. As part of that initiative, starting September 29, 2025, Honor is implementing a policy update establishing Care Pro Transfer Skill Level Requirements for High-Care Need Clients to align skills with acuity and ensure safe, high-quality care matches for both clients and Care Pros.
This policy requires Care Pros to be High Skill Level for the following Client types:
Any Hoyer-lift use
Client ≥ 180 lbs and designated partial assist
Bedbound Client
Unpredictable/Non-Weightbearing Client
We assess each client–Care Pro relationship 1:1 to plan the safest transfer approach for every visit. Our goal is continuity of care, keeping the right, familiar support in place whenever possible.
New Resource: Transfer Decision Tree
To support consistent application of this policy, we’ve created a High Skill Care Pro Decision Tree (see attached pdf). This tool guides office teams in determining when a high-transfer Care Pro is required for specific transfer scenarios.
This policy is grounded in ethical principles of doing good, avoiding harm, and ensuring the dignity and safety of every individual under our care. It sets consistent standards that protect Care Pros while ensuring clients receive safe, reliable support.
New clients will be onboarded using this standard moving forward. For current clients and Care Pros, we’ll complete a phased, hands-on update over the next few weeks to honor established relationships.
We are continuously working to improve safety processes for both our Clients and Care Pros. There is much more to come on this front, so please be on the lookout for further updates.
